Hello, I'm Keyla!
Keyla Barrera, Coyotes Teacher
Hello Coyote Families! My name is Keyla Barrera, and I am beyond excited to be part of the Coyote family! Teaching has always been my passion, and I cannot wait to meet all of my students and begin an amazing year of learning, growth, and fun together! I have worked in education for 12 years and have loved every moment of inspiring and supporting my students and families . I spent six wonderful years teaching kindergarten at BASIS Tucson Primary , followed by a year at Catalina Hills. After taking some time to focus on my family, I am so excited to return to the classroom doing what I love most.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Arizona and have been dedicated to education since graduating in 2014. One of the most exciting experiences in my teaching journey was spending a semester teaching abroad in Spain, where I developed an even deeper love for learning, culture, and connecting with students in meaningful ways. A little about me, I always dreamed of becoming both a teacher and a mom, and now I truly have the best of both worlds! I’m a proud mom of three, and I absolutely love spending time with my family. In my free time, I enjoy crafting, being outdoors, and making fun memories with my kids. You’ll probably find me browsing Target or picking up flowers and snacks from Trader Joe’s!
I truly believe every child deserves to feel safe, valued, confident, and excited to come to school each day. My goal is to create a classroom filled with kindness, creativity, laughter, and hands-on learning, where students feel encouraged to explore, grow, and shine. Learning should be fun, meaningful, and full of discovery, and I feel so lucky to help guide my students through such an important stage in their lives.I cannot wait to meet all of you, build strong connections, and make this an incredible year together. Owl Program is an enrichment program offered Monday-Friday as an extension of the school day. Students will have fun and interesting thematic activities that are planned with different themes each day of the week. There is a daily snack (provided by the parents) and as a special treat, a G-rated short film each Friday afternoon. Lots of play time inside and outside on the play yard. We staff this program only for the number of children that have registered. Class meets from 1:00-4:00 reservation are requested and drop-ins will be available when enrollment numbers allow.

Early Birds is our before school care for families that would like to have their children come at 7:30 in the morning Monday-Friday. Early birds will be available by reservation Monday-Friday drop-in options will be available when enrollment numbers allow.

At Catalina Hills, Students will benefit from many enrichment opportunities to extend their learning. Each week the students will be given instruction in Art, Music, PE and Spanish.
